Camera and Equipment ManufacturersCanon U.S.A. -- One of two companies to hold the majority of the market share in cameras and lenses. Lexar Media -- Makers of quality flash memory for cameras and other devices. Nikon U.S.A. -- The other company to hold a majority of the market share in photographic equipment. Olympus -- The first company to produce cameras and lenses for the four-thirds imaging sensor format. Panasonic -- Makers of the Lumix line of digital cameras which also use the four-thirds imaging sensor. Pentax -- Though not as popular as Canon or Nikon, they still produce equipment capable of taking excellent images. Samsung -- Samsung manufactures cameras that are compatible with the Pentax K lens mount so they can take all Pentax lenses. Their cameras share many of the same features that Pentax cameras do. SanDisk -- SanDisk is a highly regarded manufacturer of Flash Memory for cameras and other devices. Tamron -- Tamron makes a number of photographic lenses to fill the needs of the budget-minded photographer, although their lenses are used by working professionals as well. Tokina -- Tokina's lenses are of very high quality. Their build quality is in my opinion the best out of all the third-party lens manufacturers. Equipment and Software VendorsAdobe -- Creators of the workhorse standard imaging program by which all others are judged: Adobe Photoshop. Adorama -- This New York City-based retailer has a wide selection of gear at competitive prices. B&H Photo -- Another New York retailer with a wide variety of gear and competitive prices. Breeze Systems -- This company, owned by photographer Chris Breeze, makes several software titles designed to increase the efficiency of your digital workflow. I use Downloader Pro and love it for its simplicity and wide range of image naming conventions that are available when downloading images off of memory cards. General Production Services -- This company makes the excellent lens cleaning solution LensClens. Finally, a cleaning solution that doesn't smear. HDRSoft -- Creators of the excellent HDR imaging software program Photomatix. Imaging Luminary -- This company is responsible for Essential HDR, an alternative to Photomatix for HDR processing. Integrated Color Corp. -- Integrated Color engineered the excellent monitor profiling software Color Eyes Display Pro. Highly recommended if you desire accurate display profiles. onOne Software -- Makers of a wide assortment of plug-ins for Photoshop and other software capable of using Photoshop plug-ins. PixelGenius -- These guys truly are geniuses. They've created an outstanding sharpening plug-in for Photoshop called PhotoKit Sharpener. Check out the free trial. Stephen Trainor -- Developer of the excellent donation-ware program The Photographer's Ephemeris, which is one of the most useful tools I've used for determing sunrise/sunset times and directions. Loads of other cool features too. Read my blurb on it here. VisibleDust -- Why spend $40 (at least) to send your camera in for sensor cleaning when you can do it yourself? It's not as hard as the manufacturers want you to believe and all you need is a couple simple tools. These folks have what you need.
Photography Related WebsitesAspen Creek Photo -- A subsidiary of West Coast Imaging where I currently send all of my digital files to for printing. DPhoto Journal -- An excellent website on all aspects of digital photography. Outdoor Photographer -- One of my favorite magazines for reading up on and learning about the work of other landscape and nature photographers. PC Photo -- Another magazine that I subscribe to that is packed with lots of information on digital photography. West Coast Imaging -- An excellent digital lab based in California which I use for all of my prints.
